Recover deleted resources
Learn how to recover recently deleted resources, such as files, folders, and projects, before they're permanently removed.
Soft deletion in Camunda Hub
When you delete a resource, it's moved to Recently deleted. You have 30 days to restore it before permanent deletion. The following resource types are soft deleted:
- Files
- Folders
- Process applications
- Projects
- IDP applications
- IDP projects
If the resource is a parent resource, such as a folder or process application, the child resources it contains are also moved to Recently deleted.
Soft deletion only applies to resources deleted using the Camunda Hub user interface in Camunda 8.10 and later. All items deleted in earlier versions are permanently deleted and can't be recovered.
Permanent deletion in Camunda Hub
Permanent deletion occurs 30 days after a resource is deleted. This removes all associated data, including resource content, version history, metadata, and Git links.
Using the API, a Project Admin can permanently delete a resource before the 30-day window has expired:
DELETE /projects/{id}/recently-deleted
Restore permissions
Only a Project Admin at the time of the restore attempt can restore a recently deleted project. A Project Admin or Editor can restore all other resource types. The role at the time of the original deletion is not considered.

Browse recently deleted resources
In Camunda Hub, in the left-hand navigation, click Recently deleted. This page lists all resources deleted within the last 30 days.
Each row shows:

| Location | The full path of the resource's current live ancestors as a breadcrumb. Composed at read time, so renames or moves of live ancestors are reflected immediately. |

| Days remaining | Days left before permanent deletion |
By default, the list is sorted with the most recently deleted resources first.
If the recently deleted resource is a parent, such as a folder or process application, you can expand the row to reveal the child resources deleted with it.
Restore a resource
To restore a recently deleted resource:
- In the left-hand navigation, click Recently deleted.
- Find the resource you want to restore.
- Click the restore icon at the end of the resource's row.
The resource returns to its original location.
Parent resources
If you restore a parent resource, the resources deleted with it are also restored. Child resources that once belonged to the parent resource but were deleted independently are not affected.
Child resources
You can restore a child resource without restoring its parent folder or process application. Since the child can't be restored to its original location, it's placed in a new folder at the project root using the template ${fileName} - restored. The actual folder name is presented in the confirmation modal when you restore the resource.
If the project has been deleted, you must restore the project before you can restore any of its child resources. Similarly, you must restore an IDP application before you can restore its IDP projects.
